esendoran asked: Tag, you’re it! Here are the rules: Each tagged person must post ten things about themselves. You then have to choose and tag ten people. (Or not. But it's a good excuse to learn things about people!)

Chocolate shot cookies
I really had no business making cookies after this past week of over-indulgence. However I had some time on my hands and a new scraper for my Kitchenaid that begged to be test-driven, so I spent a lovely thirty minutes contemplating a recipe. I landed on this one that I used to bake years ago. They’re buttery and crisp, and they melt in your mouth. The great thing about refrigerator cookies is...

Cranberry sauce
I made this yesterday and will be using it in a brie en croute tonight. In a medium sized saucepan over medium heat, dissolve 1 cup sugar in 1 cup orange juice. Stir in 12 ounces of fresh, rinsed cranberries and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon and cook until the cranberries start to pop (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat and place sauce in a bowl. Cranberry sauce will thicken as it cools.

Rosemary shortbread
This is beginning to look an awful lot like a food blog; a food blog that focuses on rosemary. The truth of the matter is I spend lots of time in the kitchen at this time of year, and I’m still working my way through the fresh rosemary my mom sent me. After the holidays I’ll return to lettering and hopefully we’ll be able to spend more time outdoors. In the meantime, I share with you this...

Flirty potato
This classy little potato was the star of the show last night on our dinner table. Those crispy, salty leaves of potato just begged to be peeled off and popped in my mouth. I saw Ina Garten hold up one of these beauties on her show yesterday and I did a double-take. I paid rapt attention as she explained the process. Small Yukon Golds and fresh rosemary were already in my possession. All else...

Homemade hamburger buns; not just for hamburgers
It’s tough to beat fresh bread hot out of the oven with a little butter on it. (I should know, I just ate some.) These are fluffy, delicious, easy to make, and perfect for those post-Christmas ham or turkey sandwiches. Makes 16 buns. Bread machine hamburger buns Ingredients: 1 cup water 2 eggs 1/3 cup, plus 2 tablespoons cooking oil 1/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon salt 4 cups flour 2 teaspoons...

Lunch on the run
Pasta and broccoli with shaved Parmesan cheese For years this has been my go-to lunch on busy days. Bring water to boil and add pasta. When it’s 4 minutes away from being done, throw in some broccoli. Once it’s nice and tender, drain. Stir in good olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Serve with shaved or grated Parmesan cheese. Done!

Thai chicken and noodle salad
I found this recipe on Martha Stewart’s website many months ago, and then promptly forgot about it. Two nights ago ran across it again and decided to give it a try. We loved the great combination of colors, flavors and textures. A couple of notes – Unless you’re serving this as a light lunch, you may find a few of your diners are left hungry. A fair amount of snacking ensued an hour later. Also,...

Parmesan crisps
I ate several of these crispy, salty Parmesan crisps before this picture was taken. They’re great eaten alone or used as a garnish for salads and soups. Ingredients: Freshly grated Parmesan cheese Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with either parchment paper or a silpat baking pad. Using a tablespoon, drop even mounds of parmesan cheese on the baking sheet. Use...

Beet salad with oranges and feta cheese
Last weekend we attended a lovely holiday dinner party. The one ingredient showcased in perhaps half of the dishes presented on the buffet was fennel. Unfortunately, I’m allergic to fennel. So allergic I have to carry an epi-pen with me at all times. Since my choices were limited, I decided to spoon a small portion of the colorful beet salad with oranges on my plate. Even though I had never been...

Roasted garlic
Our house smells so good right now. Ingredients: Heads of garlic Olive oil Thyme (optional) Kosher salt Directions: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Peel away the papery outer layers of the garlic bulb, leaving the skins of the individual cloves intact. Cut 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the top of each garlic head. Drizzle with olive oil, and using your fingers, rub the cut garlic so that it is well-coated....

An easy dinner for a tough day
It’s been a long day. It’s been hard work and worries, and no time for fun. However I knew I should go for a walk before thinking about dinner, so I changed my clothes and headed out the door. It was cold and dark and I didn’t really want to go, but figured the good music on my playlist would get me in the mood as it always does. The music worked so well the walk turned into a jog (as it always...
